How to pivot chart month (x-axis) against sum of each month (y-axis) for each PDN

    Hi everyone,

With given data, I would like to make a pivot chart in a form of vertical bar showing months (x-axis) against sum of each month (y-axis) for PDN. In the same graph, I would like to add a horizontal line of total sum of the month. I attached a dummy example here.

Any advice and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Please amend your profile to show which Excel version you are using. Clearly it's not 2003, as you have attached an xlsx file as a sample.

The problem is that your pivot table cannot show months as row labels (which is what the pivot chart will use for the horizontal axis data), because your source data is not optimal for creating pivot tables. The best solution that I see is to "unpivot" the source data (on the Data tab), then use the unpivotted table as the source for a new pivot table. In the new pivot table, put month/date as the row labels, PDN as the column labels. You should then be able to readily create your pivot column chart from that pivot table.

This tutorial describes the issues and illustrates a couple of ways to unpivot your source data: https://www.excelcampus.com/modeling...e-source-data/
