    Charting using YY:MM data

    Hi,

I am trying to insert a chart into the attached sheet but I am a bit confused as to whether I can include the data as shown.

I need to show the averages in years and months (YY:MM) as calculated in the sheet.

Can this be done and will Excel show the data on the axis as YY:MM (for example, 5/6 being 5 Years and 6 Months)?

    Thanks

You are making life harder on yourself by keeping the data how you are. Notice how convoluted a simple average formula has to be with data like that.

It would be best to have 5 years 6 months as 5.5 (for years) or 66 (for months).

What kind of chart are you looking to use? Scatter Plot?

    Re: Charting using YY:MM data

Unfortunately, I need to use the data in this format as I need to import it into a database. The DB format is is YY:MM which is something I cannot avoid.

I have had to change my data from months to YY:MM using another, even more convoluted, formula.

I don't need a specific chart but I need to show comparison averages over 6 academic years so a line chart or another suitable chart would be acceptable.

    Thanks

There are no dates in the sample that you shared with us in post #1.

Are you saying that the sample that you shared is only for 1 academic year?
If this is the case, you have 5 more like this and you want to graph only the averages for each academic year?

I used Bo_Ry's formula for years in Sheet2.
You can graph with this layout.

I copied your only sample to create 3 "Academic Years" for the sake of this example.

    See attachment.
