    Stacked column chart using time

    hi,

I am trying to use a stacked column chart to show the amount of hours required, depending on assembly time, on a day of the week. The data in my table is custom formatted for time as 'hh:mm:ss'.

The x axis is the days of the week, the y axis is the total hours required and the stacked comlumns are the different assembly types.

The problem i am having is that the y axis goes up to 23:00:00 then reverts back to 00:00:00. I want the y axis to just simply count from 0-48, in increments of 1 as this is a cumulative total of hours required by a whole production department, there will always be more than 24 hours woork on any given day.

But i would also like the y axis to know that it is counting in hours, so that, if a assembly time is 1.5 hours, the stacked column fills upto 1.5 on the y axis, and if the next assembly process also takes 1.5 hours, the two combined will fill the chart upto 3 on the y axis.

I hope there is someone who can help me with this.

    Thank you in advance

As always, a sample workbook will make it much easier. Nobody is going to recreate your data from the description given, and nor should they have to. Help us to help you.

Re: Stacked column chart using time

Using Excel's built in sexagessimal notation, it should be fairly easy to switch from "time of day" to "elapsed hours" -- elapsed time number formats use brackets -- a time format like [hh]:mm:ss should show elapsed hours.

If you want your chart to show elapsed decimal hours rather than using the sexagessimal notation, you will need to convert your time data (fraction of a day) in the spreadsheet to elapsed hours by multiplying everything by 24 (to convert days to hours) then formatting as a suitable number format.

    Thank you for your reply.

I didnt fully understand what you said, but using your reply i have managed to make the y axis show what i want.

I formatted the y axis to [hh]:mm:ss, set the maximum to 1.5 minimum to 0.0 and the major to 0.04166665. This gave me a 1 hour increment on the y axis up to 36 hours.

    Thank you.
