Date data in drop-down organized by year/month/day but in pivot drop-down it is not

Simple example file attached.

I have hire date data formatted as a date with month/day/year.

In the drop-down I can filter according to year/month/day.

In the pivot I cannot.

Any reason why?

My data set is very large and to click all those I want to filter in the pivot is not possible.

Your dates in column A are formatted as text. Highlight column A and then go to number formatting on the home tab and format the column as a date. Then create your pivot table.
