Adding correlating names to the legend on a scatter plot (Mac)

Excel's legends are not very flexible. The legend can only display the series name. If you have added each point as its own data series and the appropriate name in the series definition, then your legend should automatically show the name for each data series/point. With only 7 points, this will be tedious, but not prohibitive. If you have a lot of individual points, eventually it will become too much.

Do you have to use the legend for this? It should be fairly straight forward to add data labels for each point and have the name of each point show up in those data labels. One way or another, the ideas that come immediately to mind for adding all points as one series and also showing the name associated with each point involve something using data labels rather than the legend. I'm not sure what all you are required to do and not allowed to do, so I don't have specific suggestions. Hello, there is a small trick to be able to add a legend with labels. First, add each point as its own data series and the appropriate name in the series. Then, add a series with all data points. In the Select Data window, move the series containing all data points to the bottom to edit/analyze the data (e.g. add trend line). Move this series to the top to hide these points behind the individual data series. Each point from the individual data series should appear with a different color automatically in the graph and the legend as in the example below.
