    Multiple slicer selections

    Hi,

I'm trying to work out how I can enable users to select two filter options in a slicer without having to hold down Ctrl.

I either need people to be able to select two things at once or find a way to lock one option as I need that to be selected every time and users are then able to select the second accompanying option.

I'm using Excel 2010 on a PC not a MAC.

I'm a basic pivot table user so please word your answers at dummy level so I can follow!

    Thanks for any help
    S

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You can either select multiple slicer selections using the Ctrl key or by clicking on the Multi-Select button toward the top-right part of the slicer window.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm trying to avoid having to hold down the ctrl key as I know my audience and they panic at having remember to do anything at all to make things work, even instructions as simple as this!

There is no multiple selection option on my slicer at the top right, just the filter icon? my slicer is a list of areas and I basically need the 'national' option to always be selected and then users able to change between all the other areas whilst always keeping national selected.

Scroll down to the "Multi-Select" section. Are you seeing something different?

    Re: Multiple slicer selections

Interesting. Maybe that feature is not in Excel 2010. I'm not sure since I am using Excel 2016.

You can always select multiple items from the Pivot Table filter (not slicer). This is outlined in the link from post #4 as well.

    Re: Multiple slicer selections

I think it is probably a limitation of the 2010 version maybe, it's my work system and we are due to be upgraded in the new year so hopefully that will fix it for me, it's annoying though.

I don't think I can use the filter function as I have the slicer linked to about 10 tables so they all change at once with one selection.

    Thanks for trying

    You're welcome.

Due to the version limitations, it looks like your best bet will be for your group to use the Ctrl key to make multiple slicer selections until you are upgraded.

    Re: Multiple slicer selections

Write a note next to the slicer, saying Hold Ctrl to select multiple items.
