How to get excel data points to show up formatted

    Hi,

I have an excel chart that updates every day for the past five years (I.e today it would show 17-Dec-2018 to 17-Dec-2013, tomorrow it would show 18-Dec-2018 to 18-Dec-2013)

Because of this, the data points I highlight change which involves me deleting the old point and adding the new one. However, every time I add a new data point. It's a larger font and goes out 7 decimals where as I want a smaller font and out 3 decimals.

I've tried changing the actual data but no avail. Any other tips?

    Thanks,
    Dan

Please upload a workbook or a representative cut down copy, anonymised if necessary. It is always easier to advise if we can see your request in its context.

Show a before and after situation with manually calculated results, explaining which information is data and which is results, and if it's not blindingly obvious how you have arrived at your results some explanatory notes as well.

Re: How to get excel data points to show up formatted

It's hard for me to replicate because the issue only happens when the date changes and being on a work computer, I don't have permissions to change date/time. I'll take some screenshots tomorrow as I go about updating the graph and will update here.

Essentially all my data (Every number under Currency, Projected Up, Projected Down), is formatted to be a currency, however when I open the file tomorrow, the $3,484.00 (red line data point) will still show that number although the number in my cell will be different (Note I did NOT manually type this in). I will delete the $3,484.00, right click on the data point, and add data label. When I do that, the number will come in with General formatting (i.e. "3512" for example)

    Hi,

    I'm stil not clear.

Is this a formatting problem on the chart as implied by your OP or a data content matter implied by the last post?

The formatting of labels and other stuff is independent of the formatting of the underlying data, so to do what I think you may be asking would require a macro.

Each new day the Projected Up and Projected down from the previous day need to disappear. Are you saying that the Sheet1 Data table still contains them?

You could try adding 2 extra series just for the last point labels.
Also set the number format of all the data value cells, even the empty ones, used by the chart
