Can text boxes and inserted shapes be locked to a chart in excel?

    Hello,

I have a chart (see attached) where I have added text boxes and arrows to point out features on the graph but every time I move the graph or copy and paste the graph into a word document the labels tend to move (….not always though and not all of them, which is odd).

Is there 1. a better way to label things in excel or 2. a way to lock the added graphics/text to the graph.

    THANKS
    M

you could possible group together the shapes/textbox/graph but that would still be jenky to deal with ( i did it with the 2nd label)

what i suggest for you since you have the newer version of excel
you can insert labels for individual data points with CUSTOM labels

you can customise the leader line as well....(the line/arrow to point to the individual data point)

i've did one point only...its a tad fiddly to do
as its graphs its pretty hard to explain in words without pictures how to do it

so here is a link where someone else already did it (albeit on a scatter graph)

In your example 2 of the shapes are not contained within the chart object and are free to move around the worksheet. If you cut and then select the chart and paste them so they are objects are within the chart object you may find they don't move when copied in to Word.

humdingaling's suggestion of using dummy chart series to highlight certain data points is also a good solution

    Hello,

Thanks so much for your reply. I have used humdingalings suggestion for data labelling and so far I think it will work nicely. I couldnt work out how to customise the arrows, however, by accident I realised once I moved the new label it automatically made a leader line.

I also tried copying and pasting Andy. Its quite odd. Some labels and arrows work perfectly fine and move happily and others do not - yet I am sure they were created the same way.

    Cheers
