    Question Line chart misunderstanding columns

I am trying to create a line chart based on the data in screenshot 1.

However, it's appearing as per the line chart in screenshot 2.

I've tried changing the Category of the cells containing the years to Custom > YYYY (stab in the dark) but they all default to 1905.

Any ideas how I can solve this?

    Re: Line chart misunderstanding columns

The years are not proper dates. Try this:

    1. Change 2014 in A2 to 01/01/2014.
    2. In A3, type =EDATE(A2,12) and enter.
    3. Copy the formula down.
    4. With column A selected, change the formatting to custom - yyyy.

Does your chart now work as you want it to?

There are definitely two screenshots attached to the first post.

My mistake. I thought the table and chart were a single picture of a range in Excel and alongside a chart.
