Post Creating a graph with sub totals

    Hi,
I try to create a graph with sub totals, in order to integrate them in the charts.
    Let's say i have this data :
    excel1.PNG

I would like to display the detail by agreement (strongly agree/agree), but also to have a general line over the bar, to show what is more generally the agreement rate / disagreement rate (quick example in paint):
    paint1.png

It's just an example but I'm wondering if you would know a way to agregate different datasets in Excel charts, like that. I don't want to have two full bars for agreement/disagreement (would be too much). Only text may be ok

    Thanks for your help

Attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy). Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

Re: Creating a graph with sub totals

Here is how I did it.

See this wiki on how to use the Select Data option to edit chart series manually: http://www.utteraccess.com/wiki/Dynamic_Charting,

First I set up some helper cells:
    Cell D8 is a fixed 0%.
Cell E8 =C6+D6 - this is the Agree Rate.
Cell D9 =E8 - this is the starting point of the Disagree Rate
    Cell E9 is a fixed 100%

Cells F8 and F9 are titles.

The values in rows 9 and 11 are to provide space between the stacked bar and the line chart.

I added a series for the agree rate. Then I changed the series type to scatter plot with straight lines (no markers). the X-Axis is D8:E8 (the Agree range) and the Y-Axis is D9:E9 (arbitrarily 5 for spacing) - this winds up on the secondary axis by default.

I added another series for the disagree rate and set it up similarly.

Then I changed the series colors to match and widened the line width to 5 points to make it easier to see.

The helper cells may be in an inconvenient place for you. If you CUT and paste them to a more convenient location, the chart will know where to find them.

P.S. This is my go-to resource for charting questions: http://www.peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/. I managed to figure this one out on my own, but I bet I've seen something similar in the reference beforehand.

Re: Creating a graph with sub totals

Thank you for your help it really helps.
I'm wondering how could I add another bar in the same chart. In this case I had one question, but I need to do it for five questions.
I just put my excel file with what I try to do.

Also do you know how can I write over the first line (with agree rate/disagree rate) the % relative to the category?

    Thanks again

Re: Creating a graph with sub totals

I see you've adapted the logic to add a neutral category.

I am afraid that there is no option other than to duplicate the cell structure. You don't have to have the cells under the raw data; they can be moved to the side and hidden. Cut and paste the existing cells to preserve the existing chart.

To do another population copy the existing chart and paste it into the new location. Then on the new chart, select the data and edit the ranges for the various series. "Point" the series to the new sets of cells.

One thing you can do is right click on the secondary vertical axis and delete the display. It will make the chart look prettier.
