Question Help to Overlap 3 chart views into 1 view

    Hi All,
Need to advice on how best to present some data. I am looking at three sets of data and want to have one nicely presented chart to show.
Chart 1 is Total Sales across 5 regions by quarter.
Chart 2 is Total Revenue across 5 regions by quarter.
Chart 3 is Total Expenses across 5 categories (grouped by expenses category but contains all regions) by quarter.
So what i would like to see is the Expenses to be a shaded area broken into different colors by category, with then the overlay of lines showing the Total Sales and Total Revenue for each region.
    Hope that makes sense.
Any and all guidance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I find that many (maybe most) charting questions are more about the spreadsheet than the chart. Here's how I would expect to build a chart like this:

    1) Arrange data so that time/quarter is down the left (or across the top) of the spreadsheet. (column A for my purposes)
    2) The next 5 columns (rows) will be the expenses by category. (Columns B:F)
    3) Continuing across (down) add the revenue and sales for each region. (Columns G:??)
    4) Select the table -- insert stacked column or stacked area chart (depending on exactly what you want the expenses to look like). If Excel assumes that your data are in rows (and it very well may), execute "switch row/columns". If Excel does something really weird with the data series, pull up the "select data" dialog and fix everything.
    5) Select one of the sales/revenue data series and change the chart type for that data series to line. Repeat for all of the revenue and sales data series.

Once you get the data arranged correctly in the spreadsheet, you are creating a basic "stacked column + line" or "stacked area + line" combination chart. Search your installation's help files for combination charts to see how MSFT describes the process.

That should be close to what you describe. What does it get right? What does it get wrong? What difficulties do you encounter?

    Thanks MrShorty.

    This has now been solved.

I arranged the data per the above post and used the combo chart feature. I just had one tweak which was to have the Sales data series on the secondary axis.
