Power Pivot - links to excel files as source not recognized

    Hello,
I have to use some excel files as sources for a Power Pivot
I can't connect to the excel files. The files are already tested on another computer and they work
The error message is (more or less)

the provider information are not included in the connection string. Please add them and retry

In the advanced connection string info I also can see:

Unable to get provider information. Reason:Unable to find the requested .Net Framework Data Provider. It may not be installed.

What should I do to solve this?
    Thanks

Re: Power Pivot - links to excel files as source not recognized

    1. Uninstall and/or fix .NET Framework 4.5 installation.
    2. Check that you have appropriate driver(s)/Provider(s) installed. OLEDB
    3. If above doesn't work, fix/reinstall Office and try again.

In 90% of the cases, above will fix this error.

In rare case, it could be that the terminal doesn't have appropriate access level to the file/folder.

Also, if you are loading data directly to data model. Avoid doing so, it's much safer to first query data using Get & Transform, and then load to data model.

First of all I checked the .NET Framework. Mine is .NET Framework 4.5 with code 378389

    .NET Framework 4.5 378389
.NET Framework 4.5.1 installed with Windows 8.1 378675
.NET Framework 4.5.1 installed on Windows 8, Windows 7 SP1, or Windows Vista SP2 378758
    .NET Framework 4.5.2 379893
.NET Framework 4.6 installed with Windows 10 393295

Obviously the installation could be corrupt and unless I solve the problem in another way I will uninstall and reinstall .NET Framework as you suggested

And here below another screenshot, which could be the explanation. OLEDB provider for Excel seems to be missing (bullet 2 of your answer) I find only the MS Access OLEDB provider

    Missing data provider.PNG

I think installing the provider should solve the problem, at least it's worth a try before reinstalling the 4.5 Net framework

FYI - When you query workbook through Get & Transform (PQ) you should see Provider=Microsoft.Mashup.OleDb.1; in connection string.
This is the provider used by PQ.
