How can I create a XY graph with Labels and individual data points

    Hello,

I am trying to create a graph in excel that I thought would be straighforward but I am having some trouble doing so.

I have 4 products (Product 1,2,3,4) and different prices and volumes for those products. In the graph I would like to show the X axis as volume and the Y axis as price. Each Product would have 1 dot corresponding to the price and volume in the adjacent cell values next to it and would also have the label of the product on the chart next to the dot.

I tried using the XY scatter graph and it plots the data correctly but I cant add the labels next to it or be able to tell which product is which. The ideal would be to show the product label as well as the price and volume next to it (ie. Product 1, $35, 200).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!
    Ardit

Your profile indicates you are using Excel 2010. In our older versions of Excel, the only built in data label options are x value, y value, series name. In Excel 2013 and later, they added an additional "label text from cells" option that allows you to put whatever data label text you want into an adjacent column and have the chart's data label use that text. For our older versions, Rob Bovey (appspro.com ) wrote a simple add-in that adds this functionality to our older versions of Excel. Using either the built in option or the add-in, I simply added the data labels, and told the data labels to use the text in column A in order to show product name for each data point. If I wanted more information in the data label, I could add a helper column that combines the desired text (maybe something like =CONCATENATE(A2,", ",B2,", ",C2), then use that helper column in either data label option.

Easiest approach is to use a newer version of Excel. Only slightly more difficult is to use Rob Bovey's add-in. Are you still using 2010? Which approach do you want to use?

Thanks for your response. Yes, I am still using 2010 but I will upgrade to 2016 so I can do this.
