Spacing Points on Chart Based On Horizontal Axis Values

    Hello,

I have a chart that plots points on it and a line.
The data comes from multiple tables and columns.
Everything works great except that the spacing between the points is fixed instead of spaced based on the horizontal axis value.
This makes the chart look unrealistic.
Please see attached pictures. The top is how it is acting now, and the bottom is how I want it to look.
You see how the 0, 30, 50, and 100 horizontal axis points are spaced properly as if all the numbers in between are there, but just not shown.
The reason the top one has all that space to the left is due to all the N/As in the table.
I also need to get rid of that so it looks like the bottom example.
I tried changing the horizontal axis setting to Date instead of Automatic, and it works in spacing it properly and getting rid of all the extra empty space to the right of the chart, but it shows all the numbers in between 0-100 and it looks very cluttered.
I just want it to show the 0, 30, 50, and 100 (used numbers).
It would work if there was a way to hide the unused numbers in between.
If you can please help me resolve this.

    Thank you!

Re: Spacing Points on Chart Based On Horizontal Axis Values

This is what it looks like when I change the horizontal axis to Date.
Everything is good except it shows all the numbers between 0-100 instead of just the ones I am using, and it makes it cluttered.
Is there a way to fix this please?

Is there a reason you are using a line chart rather than a scatter chart for this? A scatter chart will automatically space things horizontally based on the x value and will (maybe) allow better control options for the axis labels.

Re: Spacing Points on Chart Based On Horizontal Axis Values

I changed it to a scatter chart with smooth lines and markers. It looks a lot better.
If I change the major units to 10 and the minor to 1 I get a decent looking graph.
It goes out to 110 on the horizontal axis though instead of 100.
This wouldn't place the actual value in the horizontal axis though for each point if it was between multiples of ten.
Like if one of the points was at 35 it wouldn't show a 35 on the horizontal axis, and it still shows all the numbers I don't need in the horizontal axis.
This is an OK compromise, but to not really where I need it.
If any other ideas please share.

Here is what it looks like as scatter chart and I added labels too.

    Thank you!

It goes out to 110 on the horizontal axis though instead of 100.
This can be controlled by changing the axis max in the format axis dialog.
This wouldn't place the actual value in the horizontal axis though for each point if it was between multiples of ten. Like if one of the points was at 35 it wouldn't show a 35 on the horizontal axis, and it still shows all the numbers I don't need in the horizontal axis.
This can be done by adding a dummy series with the desired points on it and labeling the point. See this tutorial here: https://peltiertech.com/reciprocal-chart-axis-scale/ The tutorial also explains how to hide the default axis labels in the format axis dialog
