Chart not showing all the inputs I want, and I can't fix it.

I downloaded this chart online and have tried tweaking it a bit. Not knowledgeable enough for it.

Right now it shows 5 shots in rows in the data table, but only shows 3 on the chart.
I have added shot rows 6 - 10 in the For Printing and After action Input worksheets, and redone some
of the equations as they all didn't just copy over.

Don't know if it is possible too have 10 shots or as many as I need up to 10,ie.3, 5, 8 etc.
Sometimes a shot won't register on the chronograph so some loads may have less than ten shots.

The graph only shows the 3 shots as well as Avg. and Median Velocity.
I would like the chart/graph show all inputted and the legend moved to the outside Left of the chart.

I'm not good at excel yet still learning but have tried everything to have the chart show all 12 inputs.
Maybe it's impossible to redo the chart in Excel 2007. I suspect that it was designed in a newer version.
Someone did a lot of work on this and I am trying to improve it somewhat.

Not in any hurry as I can use it in a partial way just graphing the 5 inputs.

I even have the Excel 2007 for Dummies book and it's getting dog eared, along with headaches LOL.

PS this form is not copyrighted it was put on a forum for anyone to download and use.

Just to clarify for me the rules pls moderators. Can I not ask for help on other forums that deal with help in excel matters, as I'm getting reads on this thread, but no replies. Thank you for your answer.

You can cross-post -- just make sure to come back here and include a link to the posts on the other forums.

You have not explained all that you have tried to get the additional data. It took me a bit to reverse engineer my guess as to what you want to add to which chart. If I understand correctly, you are talking about the "summary and chart" tab, and you are wanting to add to the chart that spans rows 33:52. Your goal is to add rows 16 to 22 to the chart as new data series. Have I got all that correct?

Here's how I usually add data series to a chart. In order to avoid confusion, I usually use the "Select Data" dialog (see help file here: https://support.office.com/en-us/art...f-79983125df12 scroll down to "add a data series to a chart on a separate sheet" even though the data for the new series are not on a separate sheet).

    1) Select the chart and Pull up the select data dialog.
    2) Click on the "add" button in Legend entries (Series) section of the dialog. This should bring up the "edit series" dialog.
    3) In the edit series dialog, fill out the three fields as desired (name would be "string 4", x values should be B12:M12, y values should be B16:M16 for shot 4). Click ok when finished.
    4) Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each additional series you want to add.
    5) When finished, click OK to dismiss the select data dialog (don't click cancel or all you additions will be removed -- unless you made a mistake and want to start over).

    Does that work?

Re: Chart not showing all the inputs I want, and I can't fix it.

    Thank you for clarifying that.

Yes you are correct I want to add the data from row 16 to 22.

I followed your procedures, it didn't work, maybe I still did something wrong.
Enclosed it the new sheet with the 7 lines added as specified. Again I may have
done something wrong, I am in no way adept at excel but am learning a lot.
My excel for dummies book is in sad shape from all the use.

    Thank you for your reply.

When I open the file and select the chart, I pull up the Select data dialog to see how you defined each new data series. I notice that you entered/selected B16:M16 for the X values and left Excel's default {1} for the Y values. Remember that X values are the horizontal values and Y values are the vertical values. Review the instructions I gave (especially step 3) and use B12:M12 for the X values and B16:M16 for the Y values. (similar for other new data series).

Re: Chart not showing all the inputs I want, and I can't fix it.

Ok I think I did it. I have the 10 shots and avg. and median graphed with lines.

Is there anyway to change the legend so the the shots show a dot instead of all the circle, triangles, etc.
Formating the legend for me (2007) I can only change fill, border color, type and width of line.

Is there any way that I can change the shots to be a grey or black dot, the avg. and median can be a square or triangle, with a straight
line joining at least the avg. data(its red and curved now. I tried changing to a line chart which I believe it is and the program
quit responding. I can change to a scatter chart but it has lines everywhere and too busy for what I want.
Is it possible I can't change this in my version of Excel? My version does seem to take the data, but I can't manipulate the chart.

    Enclosed an updated version.
    Thanks
    Dave

Marker type/color and line style/color are properties of the data series, not the legend. In order to change these properties, select the data series you want to change in the chart and bring up the "format data series" dialog. You can either right click on the data series and choose "format data series" from the context menu, or you can click on the Chart tools -> Format tab -> select the desired data series from the current selection drop down -> click format selection.

Ok got it. I won't post the updated version until I sort it all out and rename things. Also If I still have something I don't understand would just post it to this thread or start a new one and list this one solved? I'm 66 years old and just now trying to learn Excel and maybe Access.

Thank you so much for your help Mr. Shorty, appreciate it very much.

I don't know whether it is better to start a new thread or add to this one -- probably depends on how closely related new questions are. I think, when in doubt, the forum generally prefers starting a new thread.

    Good luck.

Final results other than, can the legend be moved outside
the chart. Not a big deal if it can't, I can live with this,
also because I can print all on 1 sheet of paper.

Tried enlarging the graph and I can no longer print on one sheet.

Re: Chart not showing all the inputs I want, and I can't fix it.

Maybe depends on exactly what you mean. You cannot move the legend outside of the "chart area" -- the outlined box that extends from A33:M52 and contains all of the chart elements. You can shrink the plot area (the region inside of the chart area that is bounded by the axes and contains the gridlines) so that the legend is outside of the plot area but still inside of the chart area. Try this and see if it is what you want:

    1) Select chart to activate the Chart tools ribbons
    2) In the Format ribbon, click on the drop down with the available chart elements. You should see both a chart area selection and a plot area selection. Select the plot area.
    3) You should have "handles" (little circles/squares) around the axes/gridlines that outlines the plot area. "Grab" (point at click and hold while dragging) one of the rightmost "handles" and drag it to the left until the plot area is separated from the legend. The legend should stay where it is. By shrinking the size of the plot area, you should be able to make enough space so that you can move the legend beside the plot area so they do not overlap.

Is that what you are trying to do?

Yes that gave me the ability to move it around and resize it.
So now will mark thread solved, thanks to your help.
