New to Charts. I have selected a data series. See attachment
I selected a Line with Markers chart type. When I click Ok the Data series changes to what you see in the second attachment. I can't figure this out.

I cannot explain this behavior, but I have seen it before. Sometimes, something about the algorithm that Excel uses to parse data series at the time of chart creation goes wonky and you get this.
Since Excel did away with the chart wizard back in 2007, there is no way for us to verify or fix how Excel parses data series at chart creation. We must fix Excel's mistakes after the chart is created. In your case, I would create the chart, then pull up the Select Data dialog, and edit/add/remove the data series until the chart is correct.
If you want to try something at chart creation, you might try deleting/clearing the upper left cell of the desired chart range. Something about the algorithm Excel uses for parsing data ranges likes to have an empty cell in the upper left cell of the selection at the time the chart is created. Once the chart is created, you can re-enter "abandonment" (or whatever is in that cell).
