I have downloaded the results of an online survey and have started building a pivot table to try and make sense of them. I've attempted to attach the spreadsheet to this thread (not sure if it's worked, as the attachment button doesn't seem to do anything!). In the raw data tab, rows are responses and columns are answers.
There are 3 main formats of question/answer in my survey:
1. straight single-option multi-choice questions - these are the parameters I’m filtering by (both in the filters at the top of the pivot table and in columns C to I), seems to be working OK. I haven’t used all of them, but enough to show me that it works and I can replicate it.
2. preference scale questions (rate on a scale of 0 to 4 how interested you are in x). In my pivot table I can see averages for these answers and also filter them by different parameters. I’ve only put the answers to one question in so far (in rows 6-20), but again, that’s enough to show me how it works and that I can replicate it.
3. multiple-answer multi-choice questions (tick all that apply). In my raw data tab, these are the ones with lots of 1s in the cells. at the bottom of each column you’ll see that I’ve done a count so we can see overall how many respondents selected each response. This is the bit that I am finding tricky to filter. If you look at row 21 you’ll see that I’ve picked a field and put it in the ‘Values’ box where I am attempting to get values for a COUNT (i.e. how many rows had 1s, indicating a tick from a respondent - averages not being relevant in this instance). The problem is that it’s showing as if all respondents had ticked that box (adding up to a total of 159), whereas if I look at the corresponding column in the raw data (AZ), I can see that it only adds up to 80. I’ve tried to get round this by using a SUM instead of a COUNT, but then it just shows zeros for everything.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions, better still if they take account of my almost complete ignorance of this subject.
