creating line chart based on one cell that auto updates over time

    Hi,

your help with be most appreciated.

i was wondering if this was possible in excel.

i have a spreadsheet containing detail of weather. example is attached.

this spreadsheet would be linked to some software which collects the data of weather in degrees.

the spreadsheet updates the data and overwrites the cells every 1 hour.

i would like to create a line chart that records the data in cell c3,c5,c7 , etc - basically all the changes in degrees over time.

unfortunately each update, every hour, rewrites the existing data.

is there any way i can plot the line chart - to say show for example london 09.00 = .08 degrees, 10.00 = .12 through to 14.00 = .22

many thanks to anyone that can help with this

After a few days, I will venture to respond
the spreadsheet updates the data and overwrites the cells every 1 hour.
Your sample sheet does not seem to show how this update occurs. My first thought for solving this problem would be to look at the procedure/routine/utility that is updating the spreadsheet and see if there is any way to change/edit/modify the updating procedure so that it does not overwrite. Something that appends the data would be easier to work with. I don't see any indication of how that update is happening, so I cannot make any specific suggestions.

If the update procedure cannot be changed to something that appends rather than overwrites, then you will need a new procedure/routine that will copy and append the data to another part of the spreadsheet.

I expect that the data arrangement as is will not be very conducive for creating charts or other summaries. So much depends on what you are going to need to do with this, but I expect that you will be better served in the long run to make the procedure arrange the data in a good database format. That will make it easier to make pivot charts/filters and perform other database type operations on it later.
