3 piece pie chart with sub breakdowns

I am trying to make a 3 category 3D pie chart that shows the following

    Ages 56-25 = 1,050,152
    Ages 18-55 = 252,577
    Ages 86 & Over = 129,336

The part above is easy, what I can't do is within the above pie chart, break down Genders within those age groups

I need to add female and male data for each age group
    Ages 56-25 Females =402,355
    Ages 56-25 Males =647,798
    Ages 18-55 Females = 62,813
    Ages 18-55 Males = 189,764
    Ages 86 & Over Females= 69,561
    Ages 86 & Over Males = 59,775

So the end result would have a 3 category pie chart, with each slice divided to display the percentages of male/female within a Pink/Baby blue color.

I hope I explained what I am trying to do well enough for assistance.

    Thank you

What's the version of Excel that you have. Please update your profile with that info.

Solution will largely depend on it.

I'm guessing that you want something like sunburst chart?

I'm not particularly fond of this type of visual... as it's bit busy and not easy to control data to ink ratio. It may be better to have pie chart for total, and panel chart for composition of F/M in each segment.

See attached sample. Range D9:F14 shows how data should be structured in order to use sunburst chart.

Color was applied manually, first by coloring each inner segment. Then for each outer segment.

Note that order of data, starting at 0:00 position going clock-wise, is sorted largest to smallest.

EDIT: I'd strongly recommend that 3d charts never be used. It adds nothing to the data or story it's telling, and just makes it harder to read chart.

CK76, this is exactly what i was trying to do, but i agree with you, it is very busy.. How would u set the panel chart for female/male to relate to the other data?

Re: 3 piece pie chart with sub breakdowns

Panel chart, is basically just collection of individual charts, that share same structure.

    See attached sample.

This is useful, when some series have value too large, and makes it harder to read other series in chart.
See sample on Sheet2 for what I mean.

However, clustered column has advantage in that you can visually recognize scale of each series in relation to all the others in quick glance.

Which one to use, will depend on what sort of narrative you want to tell using the data and the visual.
