Scatter Plot not showing all data points

    Hi Everyone,

I created a scatter plot based on a table with 25 data coordinates but (1) only 16 coordinates are showing in the scatter plot and (2) some of the labels on the scatter plot aren't showing. Does anyone know how I can fix this? Images are below. Here's some other information that might be useful:

    - I'm using Excel for Mac 2019 (standalone version).
    - The scatter plot is based on columns C and E.
    - I can confirm that the scatter plot is linked to the entire set of cells of data.
    - I tried searching online for solutions to this problem but just can't seem to find any.

Thanks for your suggestions and let me know if there's any other information I can provide.

Re: Scatter Plot not showing all data points

It is difficult to debug from a screenshot. Can you upload a sample file?

From what I can see in the picture, there are 25 data points, but only about 12 unique data points. So, the scatter chart is only going to show the 12 unique (the duplicates plot right on top of each other so they cannot be distinguished visually). The plot for the data points looks correct to me. What do you expect different?

I cannot see why some of the data labels are missing. My guess is that somewhere along the line, you deleted/inserted/added rows, and the data label definitions did not follow along with those edits. I also wonder if some of the data labels are hiding behind other data labels.

I have no recommendations, but I would check those situations out and see if they might explain what you are seeing (or not seeing).

Thanks for the update and you're right that not all points would show on the plot since some aren't unique - I forgot about that. I didn't think about that because the data labels would usually overlay one another for overlapping data points and it wasn't the case this time. I'm not sure why and perhaps that's the real problem to solve. I've attached a sample file.

I don't think I deleted/added rows so I'm not sure that explains it. I'm happy to hear your thoughts on the file I uploaded.

The data labels appear to be linked to range =PowerInterest!$B$6:$B$40
Where as it should be =PowerInterest!$B$53:$B$88

Thanks Andy - how do you link the data labels to a specific range? I've googled it and see how to do it on Excel for Windows, but I'm on a Mac and am not seeing an option to do that. Am I missing something? The picture below is what I see what I select "Format Data Labels" in Excel for Mac 2019.

Your link is invalid. And I don't have a mac to confirm or deny what is available.

If "Value from cells" is not an option then you will need to link each data label individually.
    This approach should work

Not sure why the link didn't work but thanks for your thoughts on a solution. Yes, I already linked each data label individually, but I only know how to do that for the data labels that are actually showing - the ones that aren't showing remain unavailable to me.

I'll repost the picture I'm seeing of the label options, in case someone else has worked on Excel for Mac.

Re: Scatter Plot not showing all data points

Give those points some dummy values in order to make the data label available for linking. The link should remain when you remove the dummy data.

Re: Scatter Plot not showing all data points

Whoa... I have exactly the same issue, and actually also with a stakeholder chart...

In my case, I have various columns, including:

    Group, Name, X, Y

Some of the values do have unique Name, X and Y. But the labels don't plot.

One thing is currently not all names have values. That seemed to be one of the reasons. But, fiddling around with the data table I realized it was sorted by Group. The moment I sorted it by Name, all labels appeared on the chart. Weird.
