    Maptree

I have some fairly simple data on 17 things (column a), and the amount of money being spent on them (column b).

I wanted to try and turn this into a treemap in Excel for Office 365, that will highlight the things that are not currently having much money spent on them as they will appear much smaller than the majority.

When I tried inserting a treemap based on this data it just shows up as blank. I tried selecting both columns and just selecting the numbers column and neither gives me a graph back.

I have tried formatting the numbers column (as both a numeric and currency column) as well as adding in headers but I just can't get the data to show up. I've also tried pasting as values but nothing works. I also tried graphing the data in other ways to see if it was just a Treemap issue but nothing I do will get that data to graph.

I'm sure I'm doing (or not doing) something simple here that is causing it to not work so hoping someone else can help.

    The data I have is:

    Amount spent
    Climate action $6,987,000,000
    No poverty $6,126,000,000
    Life on land $4,816,000,000
    Gender Equality $3,127,000,000
    Reduced Inequalities $25,147,000,000
    End Hunger $22,013,000,000
    Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure $21,622,000,000
Peace and justice strong institutions $20,934,000,000
    Responsible production and consumption $2,914,000,000
    Life below water $2,877,000,000
    Good Health and Wellbeing $18,550,000,000
    Quality Education $17,037,000,000
    Partnerships for the goals $15,974,000,000
    Affordable and clean energy $14,584,000,000
    Sustainable cities and communities $13,678,000,000
Decent work and economic growth $12,452,000,000
    Clean water and sanitation $10,218,000,000

Apologies for the formatting of the data. I can get it to work when I'm typing it into the box, but not when I post.

It looks like your numbers are actually text since they are left aligned. Do the $ signs appear in the formula bar when you select one of the value cells?

Thanks it was that. Not sure why as I had reformatted it to numeric but maybe having the dollar sign stopped it from reformatting?

Changing the format doesn't change the content. If you see a $ in the formula bar, then it's actually part of the cell content, so that content is text and not a true number.
