Question Scatter chart for efficient frontier (portfolio optimization)

    Hi all,

Got a problem 'connecting the dots' when using a scatter chart for portfolio optimization. Checked with youtube if I'm using the right data, so there is no doubt about it. However, once I put the data onto a chart, it goes terribly wrong. 1 attachment - dots without a line ( I need a line to connect them ), 2 attachment - using a scatter chart with smooth lines (not so smooth by the looks of it). 3rd attachment - what I'm meant to have for my dots to get linked.

Thank you indeed for any help.

Excel connects the dots in the order they are present in the spreadsheet, which is why you get the view in picture 2. In order to get something like 3, you must sort the data in the order you want them connected. Based only on these three pictures, I cannot tell how this fits into your broader spreadsheet or anything else that would allow me to give specific suggestions.

As an example based on the data in the pictures, it looks like you could sort the data on y value (2nd row), and it would work. Select the 2 rows of data -> Data -> Sort -> left to right -> by row 2 values in either ascending or descending order. Of course, that assumes that using the sort command works within how you intend to use the spreadsheet. The main idea is that you must somehow sort the data in the spreadsheet in the order you want the points connected.
