Sorting Data then Pivot Table using that sort. How do you do this?

I attached a set of data. I sorted it into "Black". (In practice, there would be many more columns that would have been sorted/filtered out).
Next I want to create a pivot table from the sorted data. Is there any way for me to do this without copying and pasting the sorted/filtered data onto another tab, then creating a data table from that?

What I did here was create a pivot table from the sorted/filtered data. However, the pivot table still shows that it is unsorted. Therefore, I would have to pivot it again.

In this instance, I just want to show the "Black" division in the pivot table. However, I don't want to go through all the pivoting again. (in reality there would be many). Is there any simpler way to do this? Thanks for your help.

Apply a sort to the pivot table.

Hi Thanks for your reply. The point is for me not to sort it again. This would be a massive data set that I would have filtered first based on many criteria.)the data that is shown would be all the data i need but i don't need the rows that the filter has skipped) I want to then create a pivot table off that filtered data by highlighting what is shown (the filtered data is not shown because of the hidden rows). However, when I create the data table off of that, it includes the rows that I already filtered out.

Is there a way for me to create this data table without me copying and pasting the filtered data into a new tab? and then creating a pivot table off of that? Thanks again

If you don't want to sort it again, don't sort the original data, that is pointless, just sort the pivot data. Pivots will order the data.

Thanks, the reason I did it the way I did was because I needed to make calculations off of the data THEN use the pivot table to show the summaries.

If I made the pivot table first, I would have to make calculations within the pivot table itself which seems complex.

Depends upon the calculation I guess, but pivots support calculated columns.

But why would a calculation on the original data need you to sort it? That makes no sense to me. Whilst it can sometimes make things simpler, I rarely need to that.

The attached file is a simplified verison of what i would need. The data set is massive and I would need to make a complex calculation from Column L and onward. How would I do the same if I made a pivot table off the original? I guess I am not that versed in inside pivot table calculations and it would have been difficult.

You could probably do those calcs in the pivot, but you would ned to show lot of extra columns, probably not worth it. But … if you show those calc columns in the pivot they show correctly when you sort by colour in the pivot. I think you re over-complicating it.
