I don't know if you can just change 1 without VBA. You can change a series if it is a negative value.
Anyway here is a vba solution

If you need to dim x just "dim x" would work. x is not a range.
Were you able to check out Glen's solution?
The glen solution does not seem right to me.
Only column G if greater than C must be colored red.
Your solution, daves if there are more charts it works on all. It should only work on columns that are larger

Try it now (adjust values in green shaded row).
The colum G it becomes red only if greater.
And for new rows added?
You never mentioned extra rows until now...
One tiny tweak and then... this?
