Controlling chart Elements linked to Pivot table

    Hi everyone

I know this has been covered a lot before, but i've got a lovely pivot table with two fields under rows, dates in the column and a single financial field in the values. The pivot shows subtotals of one of the row fields.
I want to create a pie chart which just shows the subtotals.
When I create the pie from the pivot, naturally excel shoe-horns the entire pivot data into the chart and doesn't allow you to do much with it.

Besides creating my own chart and selecting the totals individually, I would prefer to use the pivot pie if possible so my slicers work dynamically with the visualisation.

Does it make any difference to the pie chart if you collapse the row items in the pivot table?

You may need to post example workbook which illustrates the problem
    Cheers

Re: Controlling chart Elements linked to Pivot table

Hi Andy, so if I create my own chart, when I slice the pivot by quarter or category, it breaks my chart cos the numbers it's looking at have disappeared. This is not good.
But if I use a pivot chart, it's got all the categories and dates and everything all in one place. And if I remove them from the chart, it removes them from the pivot.

    :-(

can you post example that illustrates the problem? With a description of what you actually want in the chart
