Pivot table won't refresh until saved

Hi,
Me again...
Previously my pivot table (which based on an append of 3 tables) refreshed when i hit, unsurprisingly, refresh.
Then I broke it and rebuilt the whole thing and now if I make a change in one of the tables and hit refresh on the pivot table nothing happens UNLESS, I hit save first and then it works.
Can anyone point me to the setting that would allow the append and associated pivot table to update without having to save?

Ugh. I just uploaded a sample that was exhibiting the above behavior and now it doesn't work at all.
