Excel Function to account for trends

I have a series of values. Two columns (B and C) that have varying values for yearly performance. I also have multiple tabs that have the same numbers for the yearly tab, but in a monthly format. (IE: January, February, March, etc.) I want to be able to identify growth trends and identify periods of stagnation, for the yearly and the monthly formats. Is there an excel function to do this? I also want to be able to chart this data. Values in Column B are going to be the high point of a bar, and the values in Column C are the low point of a bar. What would be the best kind of chart to use?

Difficult to say for sure with such a limited description, but nothing immediately comes to mind. What I get out of your brief description is some kind of "signal processing" type of problem, where you scan down the data, compute changes, rates of change, or something similar, and then highlight parts of the signal based on those computations. Since change/rate of change is often important to this kind of analysis, I often find that my first step in these kinds of problems is to add a column that computes change/rate of change.

Here's an example of the how I tend to start these kinds of analysis: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-for...ml#post4952023

Values in Column B are going to be the high point of a bar, and the values in Column C are the low point of a bar.
Your description makes me think of a box plot. In our older versions of Excel (assuming you are using 2010 as your profile indicates), box plots are created as stacked bar/column charts. This is a pretty good tutorial for creating box plots: https://peltiertech.com/excel-box-an...ams-box-plots/

Am I understanding what you are trying to do? Does any of that help?
