    Refresh All - Twice?

I have workbooks with pivot tables that use data retrieved from SQL Server. I have found that, in order to get new data from the server and see the updated results in my pivot tables, I have to hit "Refresh All" twice. The first refresh gets the data from the server but doesn't update the pivot table. The second "Refresh All" retrieves the data again (even though it hasn't changed) but *does* update the pivot table. I guess that the pivot table update happens *before* the data is retrieved. I could be (probably am!) wrong about that, but at least that helps me to understand the behaviour I'm seeing.

Now, the question: Is there a command that just updates the pivot table? Ideally, I'd like to:

    1. Refresh the data
    2. Update the pivot table with the data just retrieved

My motivation is that some of the queries are complex and lengthy. The second data-pull in the second "Refresh All" request is redundant and I'd like to avoid it, if possible.

I reckon your data connections are probably set to refresh in the background? if that is the case, turn it off

Thank you! I tried everything until I saw your post. Works like a charm.
