    Legend overlap problem

I have attached a simple extract from a more complex worksheet, displaying a simple line chart below the data table. For some reason the legends overwrite the horizontal axis labels. I have tried fiddling about with settings, formatting and spacings but all to no avail. Can someone tell me the reason and equally important, how to / what steps to solve the problem? Tks.

    Re: Legend overlap problem

When you hover the cursor over the chart area, plot area or legend, the cursor changes to the move/resize nsew arrow cursor.
Click the plot area to select it and move it to the top of the chart area to get rid of that large unused space. Same for the legend textbox.

    Re: Legend overlap problem

When you create a new chart the legend has a property that says 'Show legend without overlapping chart'. If you select legend position the plot area will automatically resize.

But once you manually adjust the plot area this no longer functions. You can restore it by applying 1 of the automatic chart layouts.
Select chart and use Chart Tools > Design > Chart Layouts > Quick Layout.

Or you may find it's quicker to recreate the chart to restore this feature

Thumbs up Re: Legend overlap problem

Thanks for both answers. I was going to resort to using both but it looks like solution No 1 has worked so I will keep no 2 in reserve

    Re: Legend overlap problem

Following on from that can someone reveal how you rotate the labels on the (horizontal) axis to show vertically in order to "compress" the scale when space is short? Tks.

    Re: Legend overlap problem

There is an alignment option on the Format Axis dialog.

You could also increase the number of days of the Major axis, so labels are show 1 a week rather than daily.
