Displaying images when nodes are clicked

I am using an XY Scatter plot to create a timeline. I would like to display a unique picture of a newspaper article that I have saved when the user clicks a node. I wish to store the pictures in the workbook as opposed to having links to them on my hard drive. I don't necessarily need to have the image attached to the marker, the image can be in a picture box located elsewhere on the chart. When the user clicks elsewhere the image will close, or display the next markers image.

Are there any methods that can get me close to what I desire? I am familiar with VBA.
