    Pivot with monthly totals

Hello. I have a list of POs some of which are billed in full but some have a remaining balance. Those with a remaining amount need to be closed manually through a change order. How can I create a pivot with monthly totals based on the final value of the PO before it becomes zero *only* if there is a change order # or change order date? The only way I've been able to do it is to create columns after each month that calculate the difference between previous month and next month, and for every change from one month to the next manually enter whether it's a payment or reversal.

What I'm looking for is a a pivot of dollars recovered from completed projects. Attaching excel file.

    Re: Pivot with monthly totals

Will you please attach a sample Excel workbook? We are not able to work with or manipulate a picture of one and nobody wants to have to recreate your data from scratch.

    1. Make sure that your sample data are REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired results are also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells as they cause lots of problems.

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

Please pay particular attention to point 2 (above): without an idea of your intended outcomes, it is often very difficult to offer appropriate advice.

    Re: Pivot with monthly totals

Hello wyattearpski and Welcome to Excel Forum.
Pivot Tables are produced from row over row data, as modeled on the Table1 sheet.
Columns A:G of the table are produced using the following Get & Transform advanced editor code:
Please Login or Register to view this content.
After the table is loaded to the sheet column H is added/populated using: =IF(AND(D2<>"",TEXT(D2,"mmm")=F2),G2,0)
The pivot table references the values in column H (Value2)
