    Question Stacked boxes chart

    Hello!
I don't know to much about excel and I can't find that on internet. I want to have a chart like I'm showing in the image. I don't even know if it is a chart. Just a visualization, with one row of stacked boxes, of the time that is dedicated to the names. The length of the boxes is the duration of the time. Same names must have the same box color. If there is a gap at the times in the table then there is a gap in the chart too. Do you know how I can do it?

    Re: Stacked boxes chart

Start by getting the data right in the spreadsheet. What you have is good. In order to get the "gap", you will need to insert a row between Mark and Tom and enter 2:7:39 (or B6-C4) into the new D5. You will also need a "gap" before John to account for the 10 minutes 35 seconds between midnight and his start time, so insert a row before John and enter 0:10:35 (or =B3) in the new D2.
Select A2:A10 ctrl D2:D10 -> Insert stacked bar chart. Excel will default to a chart with the names along the vertical axis and time along the horizontal axis with one "duration" data series. Find the "Switch Row/Column" command and execute to get something very close to the chart you show in your picture. Format chart elements as desired (such as formatting gaps to have no fill color).

    Re: Stacked boxes chart

Thank you for the detailed answer! I would like to know if there is an automatic way for excel to do it (gaps and colors), because the data I have are too many and I can't do it manually!
