Different colored Grid lines in Excel 2013 chart

I take my blood pressure three times per day (according to my cardiologist's request) and keep it on an Excel 2013 spreadsheet. This is automatically transferred to a line chart which shows my systolic, diastolic and pulse rate.. In order to make the chart easier to read I was wondering if it was possible to make the grid lines between days either a different color or a heavier font.

Re: Different colored Grid lines in Excel 2013 chart

I don't see a ready way to do this as a line chart using the built in gridlines and formatting options.

If I combine the dates and times into a single column and change the chart type to an XY scatter chart, I can have major units/gridlines for each day, and minor units/gridlines every 3, 6, or 8 hours and readily format the major and minor units differently. Your line chart with a text/category axis spaces the data evenly no matter what time the actual readings were taken. A scatter chart will space them correctly according to time (with longer gaps overnight and shorter gaps during the day). This seems like the easiest option to me if you are not required to use a text/category axis.

I could also use techniques like these (https://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/AddLine.html ) to replace Excel's gridlines with gridlines of my own making. This will require more work to set up, but will leave your text/category axis intact.

At this point, you would need to choose what elements/features of the spreadsheet/chart are essential and which you want to change, then decide which approach you like for getting this effect.

Thanks for that! The advantage of being retired and having lots of time is that I can play with it. (My wife calls it OCD!) I like the Peltier Method and try it over the next few days/weeks ... lol. Many thanks again!
