    Overlay data by week

I have a set of data that has been gathered over the past year, and I want to see what the trend looks like across each week. I'd like each week to be laid on top of the other weeks so I can get a general trend.
I've tried using a pivot table, but I can only get that to give me the days of the week, then it adds all the data together for each weekday, rather than overlaying all the data points. If I do it in a normal chart, I can only get the data (I'm testing with one month at this stage) spread out across all the dates of the month, not overlaid by week.

If you are looking to create a stacked column or stacked bar chart, you need to have the series (days of week) in separate columns (or rows if you use PivotTable).

Insert an Index column and create a PivotTable and a corresponding chart.

    Re: Overlay data by week

Thanks JoshepTeh, that's closer to what I'm after than anything I came up with, however I would ideally like to be able to have it as a line chart with markers, so that I can see the curve for each week, on top of the curve for each other week. I want to be able to see if there is a general trend happening. I also want to be able to include other data sets so I can see the impact it's having on this data set. I can't see those trends in a bar chart like this unfortunately.

    Re: Overlay data by week

Basically, I'd like to group the dates by week, but excel doesn't give me that option - only hours, days, months etc.

It would be helpful if you can show how your chart will look like, and what's the values for X and Y-axis.

    Re: Overlay data by week

    Hi,

This is what I'm after, but without having to break the data up into separate weeks. Currently the data is sitting in separate spreadsheets for each month.
