I have set up a pivot Table and would like to be able to group the dates in the filter list by Month

Change the format of the date column to Custom MMM
refresh the PT and check to make sure the change came through
If it didnt, remove the date field and then put it back in

Thanks for your advise
I created an extra column on the source sheet with end of month dates and formatted these as mmm-yyyy and used this as the filter data
