Lightbulb I need help adding a chart - Box and whiskers?

    Hello -
I'm new here - this is my first post. I was tasked with creating a chart to show the mean and St.D for exams. Data available are test date, mean, st.d., low and high score. When this information is highlighted, recommended charts are individual bar graphs, without relating this data in anyway to each other. I was searching how to insert a box and whiskers chart, but am at a loss. Any ideas?

Does you version of Excel offer a built in box and whisker chart type? If so, you can use the raw data (not the summary data you've shared) to generate a box and whisker chart.

If your data do not fit into the template for the built in chart, or your version of Excel does not support the box and whisker as a built in chart type, then you can built a box and whisker chart as a stacked bar/column chart. https://peltiertech.com/excel-box-an...ams-box-plots/

My version of excel has a built in box and whisker chart, but the data doesn't populate the chart correctly. I won't have access to the full set of scores or the raw data. I will only receive these points, the mean, st.d., low and high.

Re: I need help adding a chart - Box and whiskers?

I'm not familiar with the specialty charts in the newer versions. From what I see in the box and whisker chart help file, it is expecting to have the raw data. From what else I have seen of these newer specialty charts, if the data you have does not fit exactly within Excel's template, the new specialty chart cannot help you.

That said, I recommend looking through the other tutorial I linked showing how to build box and whisker as a stacked column/bar chart. It should not be overly difficult, you'll need to use the mean, sd, max, min data that you have to calculate a few additional values, then create and format a stacked column/bar chart to get your box and whiskers plot.
