Creating stacked area chart combo in Excel

    Hi Everyone,

I am trying to create a specific graph but I am not sure how to do this in excel.

I want to create a combo stacked area chart in excel. With the combo part to be a horizontal-ish line (like a trend line but not) plotting specific values. The values I want for this line are in the column highlighted yellow. In the workbook I have uploaded, I have included a stacked area graph (what I would like but just without the line), my best attempt at creating the combo stacked area chart, and finally, a picture of the graph style I would like (not my actual values in there though). My issue with my best attempt is that it doesn't feel like the right way to make the graph, because I have had to manipulate the values in the yellow column (the manipulated values are in a column called "my attempt values"). Also, in my best attempt, I don't like that it isn't just a line but a polygon.

Note: the line I would like won't always be in the middle of the stacked areas, sometimes it will be above the areas completely.

I'm not sure if creating this graph is possible or not in excel but I thought this would be the place to ask.

Thank you so much in advance for any help you are able to offer me.

Re: Creating stacked area chart combo in Excel

I think I have figured it out. Instead of the line being a part of the stacked area chart itself, I created a secondary axis and plotted the values in the yellow column as a line chart. I am still having trouble with the labels on the x axis being 10, 20, 30, 40 etc

As I am using the PC version of Excel I am not sure that this will work on the MAC version, however it may be worth trying.
    1. add a row at the top of Table4 and put the number zero in the Year column
    2. Select the data for the chart and edit the axis labels to read: ='Carbon Storage'!$A$2:$A$82
    3. format the horizontal axis so that the interval between tick marks is 10 and the specify interval unit is 10.
