    Question Overlapping 2 Pivot Charts

    Hello,
I am new to the forum, though I read many topics helping me in my daily use of Excel.

I need to compare target vs actual dates for a series of items. I am able to create 2 pivots and relative 2 charts. However, I do not know how to overlap the 2 charts in a single one, so that it will be easier to read.
    See attached example

    Can you please help?
    Thanks!!

    Re: Overlapping 2 Pivot Charts

Some depends on exactly what you want to see in the final chart. The main challenge is that a pivot chart is somewhat limited -- especially in that it can only show a category axis. Pivot charts cannot show data along a value or date horizontal axis. Details about the differences between regular charts and pivot charts are explained here: https://peltiertech.com/regular-char...-pivot-tables/

The quickest "easiest" (though maybe not in the long term) way I found was to make a regular XY scatter chart (see link above), then plot the date from the two pivot tables into the one XY scatter chart.

If you decide you must use a pivot chart (which might be easier to use and maintain in the long term), then I think you will need to rearrange your source data so that you have all of the dates in one column/field, a new column/field for "actual or expected" (are you allowed to change the source data at all?). Then you can create a single pivot table using dates as the row labels, expected/actual as the column labels, and sum of project amount as the pivot values. Make sure the pivot table sorts the dates correctly (mine did not), then insert the pivot chart based on this pivot table. You should get something that allows you to compare the expected and actual dates (even though the chart cannot use a date/value axis to correctly space the points according to date).

Help us understand your requirements and your restrictions, and we should be able to help.

    Thank you.
At the end, the easiest way I found was to create a dedicated tab with all the dates already preset and a series of SUMIFS to do the automatic lookups of the 2 values.
