Time line that can copy down the side of a table

    Hi.

I have found my self stuck trying to create this.
Effectively what I'm trying to create is a timeline that can copy down along the side of a table as a visual aid to the data in the table. I have tried many things like converting dates to numbers, then dividing them by 365, then trying to turn them into percentages but nothing I do is working.

My experience with using charts is very limited and while I'm not bad at Excel logic, after about 6-8 hours I'm really not getting anywhere. Since this isn't for work either I feel like I am just wasting my time even though I can see that achieving this would be really useful.

I have attached a sheet which shows a general idea of what I'm trying to achieve. If anyone can solve this for me you will be a hero.

It took me quite a while to understand what you are trying to achieve. It might look better if you had a continuous band of colour from the start date to the end date, and just use a contrasting colour to indicate Point 1. That would be very similar to a Gannt chart, and for that you would use many (thin) columns, each representing a single day, rather than use a column to represent a month and to try to position the day within that column.

    Hope this helps.

    Pete

Your certainly not far off. A Gannt chart isn't quite what I'm after as I'm trying to represent milestones against a baseline and a projected forecast so the fill between them aren't relevant in this situation and may distract. I may end up falling back on a Gannt chart though. Thanks for your help. The very thin columns certainly is in the right direction.

You would not have to fill between points. As modeled on Sheet2:
    1. Fill row 1 with dates
    2. apply the following conditional formatting rules:
For blue (start and end): =OR($A2=F1,$C2=F1)
    For green (point1): =$B2=F1
Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks, that has done the trick nicely.
