    Preserving Pivot Table formatting

Hi, this seems to be one of those issues that Microsoft has dragged its feet on for decades: preserving Pivot Table formats. I've clicked the check box to preserve formatting, but anytime I make a change to the pivot table, I lose the formats. Does anyone have a solution? TIA, Paul

    Setting to Preserve Cell Formatting
    1. Right-click a cell in the pivot table, and click PivotTable Options.
    2. On the Layout & Format tab, in the Format options, remove the check mark from Autofit Column Widths On Update. ...
    3. Add a check mark to Preserve Cell Formatting on Update.
    4. Click OK.

@Maureen Coots, yes, that's the official documentation, and I've followed it to a letter for decades. It doesn't always work, for me it rarely does. I'm looking for a fix or workaround for the many times it doesn't.
