Relationships Data Model vs Pivot Tables relationship

I am a little confused whether they are different or it is a matter of functionality overlap.

I watched online tutorials for merging data from 2 or more tables for analysis. They recommend loading queries into the Data Model and then create relationships.

However, in my instance I already have pivot tables, and the pivot table itself actually offers to create a relationship.

Are relationships which can be created via Pivot tables use the same built in functionality as Relationships via the Data Model?

Or in other words: do I need to bother creating data model first and then pivot tables? Or can I make relationships directly via pivot table interface if I already have pivot tables made?

Unless, I am thinking if I can't relate them, maybe I'll have to upend them in Power Query.

I guess I'll partly answer my own question. Via Data Model we can add measures.

So maybe that's one of the major differences?

The result is the same - the relationships are added to the data model, as that is what the pivot tables are using as a data source. Doing it yourself in the data model simply gives you more control over the process and you can see what you are doing better.
