    Unhappy General Chart/Pivot Question

This is more of an idea question rather than a specific formula question.

What I'm doing is tracking sales per product through a pivot. But now I'm running promotions on products and attempting to see how these affect sales on the dates the promotions were running. Having writer's block here on the best way to show this.

I have hundreds of product SKU's which fit into different categories of promotions that will be running on different weeks. I could simply just highlight those days sales for every product. Or add an extra row and mark products being promoted that week.

Just stuck on how to show this in a summary chart, to see differences from promotion/no promotion especially since the dates can be "sporadic" across hundreds of products. Maybe adding a row to the sales data--cross referencing that from the promotion name AND the dates. Now I would have the products marked as being promoted that day. Then pivoting that data out separately / referencing it against the regular non-promotion sales.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to show this data? Has anyone done anything similar? Sorry if this doesn't make sense 

    Re: General Chart/Pivot Question

Please don't take this the wrong way, but this is exactly how not to organize data for pivot table analysis. As a general rule: go deep rather than go wide.

Sheet 2 in the attached workbook shows how the data should be organized. This is what is known as a normalized format. I only did the first three days of sales. In the normalized format, the pormo cat should only be filled out on those days on which the promotion is run.

Included is a pivot table showing average daily sales with and without the promotion.

One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
