    Bar-XY Combination Chart

    Hi

I need to create a Bar-XY Combination Chart & ive been following this step by step guide (https://peltiertech.com/bar-line-xy-...hart-in-excel/) but i still cant work out how to create it correctly.

    Please can someone help me?

I have attached an example.. i need the sold category to be a bar chat (from highest to lowest) & a marker for the unsold for each variable. both on separate axis.

    Kind regards

    Continued from here: https://www.excelforum.com/excel-cha...ne-marker.html

I still see no chart, nor anything indicating how far through Peltier's tutorial you got before getting stuck. Following Peltier's tutorial, I would have expected:

    1) Enter "height" values in column E of your sheet the same as Peltier did in column D of his sheet.
    2) Select B2:C22 and insert your bar chart.
    3) Format the vertical "category" axis as he describes (categories in reverse order).
    4) Select D2:E22 -> Copy -> Paste special as Peltier describes to add the 2nd data series to the chart.
    5) Select the new data series and change chart type to XY scatter.

Your chart should now look very similar to Peltier's chart, except that the XY scatter markers are positioned (correctly) way to the left since the unsold values are so much smaller than the sold values. To put them on their own horizontal axis:
    6) Insert the secondary horizontal axis (however that happens in your version. In my version, I select the chart -> Layout -> Axes -> secondary horizontal axis -> show default left to right axis). Format the secondary horizontal axis as desired.

    Where are you getting stuck?

I don't have access to Excel at the moment, so I cannot see what you have done in the chart. The only thing that looks unexpected to me is the values in column E. I would have expected them to range from 19.5 to 0.5 instead of 20.5 to 1.5. Is that the incorrect position that you are finding? The points are positioned to "high" on the chart?

    Re: Bar-XY Combination Chart

You have not set the ranges for the xy-scatter series.

    I deleted the excess series
Set the series to the correct x and y value ranges.
Altered the Height values to align with the bars
Adjusted the secondary vertical axis to have Min=0, Max=20
    Formatted markers

Charts to not sort category data so you will need to sort the charts source data.

    Hi Andy

thank you very much for doing that (i still have no idea how you did it lol)

if i need to change the bounds for the unsold as the scale is too big, how do it do this? i tried to shorten the scale but it just messed up the markers being centralised?

    Re: Bar-XY Combination Chart

Double click the secondary vertical axis and then within the format pane adjust the Min and Max values.
