How to make side by side floating bars?

I am trying to make a gnat/bar chart wherein two bars will float side side having dates as x-axis and names as y axis. I have attached 2 sheets in a excel file so that things are explained in a comprehensive way. Request have a look and help me find a solution. Thanks in advance.

    Hello,

just for the record, the correct term is Gantt chart.

You're on the right track with Sheet1. You need a stacked horizontal chart with dates on the X axis. To stack more bars on top of the red ones, you need to create more columns in the data table. Just like the Duty duration column, enter the number of dates for each additional series. Create gap series if desired and format them with no fill.

    See attached.

    cheers,

    Hi teylyn!
Thanks a lot for giving the solution. One more query. Is it possible to write on the bars?

You can use the free XY Chart Labeller add-in available here: http://www.appspro.com/Utilities/ChartLabeler.htm

Create the text labels in worksheet cells. Then select the chart and start the Chart Labeler. Select the data series, then select the text cells.

    cheers,
