    date and time line chart

    Hello,

I am trying to create a line chart with dates on the x-axis and times on the y-axis. The resulting line chart is not showing the expected results. I have converted the date and time values to text and that also does not work. Below is an example of values I am trying to plot:

    Date Time
    2/1/2007 7:49:04 PM
    2/1/2007 7:51:40 PM
    2/1/2007 8:04:58 PM
    2/1/2007 8:15:47 PM
    2/1/2007 8:42:49 PM
    2/1/2007 8:45:44 PM
    2/1/2007 8:53:03 PM
    2/3/2007 4:54:11 PM
    2/3/2007 4:56:12 PM
    2/3/2007 4:57:43 PM
    2/3/2007 5:05:46 PM
    2/3/2007 5:09:22 PM
    2/4/2007 3:58:24 PM

Any help would be truly appreciated.

    Thanks

Your question does not seem real.

You have 13 rows of data, you can plot time over 13 points.

You have 3 dates, 7 time entries for the first date, 6 for the second date, and one for the third.

How did you intend the chart to look with these settings?

Is it possible to plot multiple times over the same date in a line chart?? From your response, it sounds like this can't be done in a line chart.

Do you have any other ideas on how to show this data on a chart??

    Thanks

it is not to my knowledge, but you can add to the date and force the plot, something like a column

    =ROW()&" "&TEXT(A2,"dd/mm/yyyy")

    to help set the chart.

I know this is an old thread - But I had a similar issue, and then solved it by using a scatter chart with lines

Re: date and time line chart

    Hello,

I hope it's okay for a new guy to resurrect an old thread. I found this post during a search and the original question matches the problem I'm trying to solve. To better explain what I'm trying to achieve, I created a graphic ... here's a link:

I'm able to create a chart in which I can specify a Y-axis with a 24-hour time-line and an X-axis with a full month of days. But I can't figure out how to create a graph that will plot data in a column form specific to a single day. And I also don't know if multiple time-periods can be made to plot out in a single column (see the "May 31" data column). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks - Corey

wont abide by rules, eh? Well:
Your post does not comply with Rule 2 of our Forum RULES. Don't post a question in the thread of another member -- start your own thread. If you feel it's particularly relevant, provide a link to the other thread. It makes sense to have a new thread for your question because a thread with numerous replies can be off putting & difficult to pick out relevant replies.

Also, DO NOT post pictures of worksheets. Do not post files on outside servers that some members cannot access. It's easier to post the sample workbook directly to the forum (why the extra steps: screen capture, save to jpg. post to extermal server, attach to post???)
