Plotting values in order on x-axis

    Hi all,

I managed to find the answer to my first problem on this site (awesome place with awesome people ) but I couldn't solve my second problem. I can't get Excel to plot the data in order on the x-axis. My data contains the viscosity of corn starch at various temperatures, and it was first heated then cooled. How do I get excel to plot the data in order?

    My data is:

Temperature (oC) 4% Starch solution 8% starch solution
    45 0 0
    65 0 12
    85 256 2266
    95 375 3958
    75 498 5108
    55 630 7752
    25 860 9780

Any help will be much appreciated! Thank you!!

    Hi,

Welcome to the forum! how about sorting (A-Z) your data table by the first column - does that work for you?

    Hi oldchippy,

I tried your suggestion but it didn't really work out... the graph shape was correct but the data was not! I just want Excel to plot according to my table, meaning on the x-axis 45, 65,...95, 75, and lastly 25, which means it is going against the normal plotting order. Can't seem to get around it though..perhaps Excel doesn't support this function?

Hmm, maybe it can't be done on Excel- I've looked through most help topics but none seems to cover this problem! Not sure if I can ask, but do you know of any other tools that might be able to do this?

Ah, that certainly looks similar to what I'd like to achieve, but how do I set X-axis as a category axis? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I'm pretty new with graphing on excel.

Edit: I just managed to figure it out with a few more tries. Thank you so much for your help oldchippy! Much appreciated!
