Representing standard deviation with shaded area?

I want to create a line graph showign a trend over time, and have the standard deviation representated by a horizontal bar that is shaded a certain color. The usual method in excel is to have a series to represent the standard deviation value, but this is not what I want.

Is it possible to display a shaded area?

Yes by using 2 series plotted as area charts.
The first acts as a padding for the second which is the actual band.
Format the first to have no border or colour.
