    line chart display problem

    I have this problem with my chart in excel.

    If I graph two rows of data to 2 separate charts I get it right. However I need to have 2 graphs in 1 chart to compare them.

    They a displayed incorrectly.

    The 2 lines do not appear the same as when they are in their own chart because the Y axis scaling is different.

    Also you will have great difficultly getting an accurate chart if you try to align the lines with a chart area image. Better to build the whole chart using chart elements.

    Currently the scaling is based on your actual data rather than the Y scale shown in your examples. You will need to factor up the real data.

    The colour scale is just a quick copy and paste affair but you should be able to create a much cleaner image from the original image. The new image is displayed in a additional series plotted as a bar chart. The scaling of the bar chart value axis has been set to match that of the xy lines.
    I have also changed the line chart to be xy-scatter rather than line.
    The x axis labels are creating using the data labels from another series.

    I didn't expect such a professional answer.

    I also had problem when I tried to add new data. The original series "axis" and "spectrum" are lost if I select a range I wan't to plot. Otherwise I must add them one row at a time

    How did you "series plotted as a bar chart" include additional series and changed it to bar chart? I also can't find all those advanced axis configurations.

    I work with office 2007.

    Create xy-scatter on range B6:AL8

    Chart Tools > Design > Select Data
    Add Series called Dummy Axis,
    X Value from =Sheet1!$C$4:$J$4
    Y Value from =Sheet1!$C$3:$J$3

    Add Series called Spectrum and set both X and Y to ={1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0}

    Format X axis.
    Min = 380
    Max = 780
    Major=10
    Minor=2

    Format Dummy Axis series to be a small black cross with data labels showing X value

    Add Gridlines

    Select Specturm series and change to Bar

    Format secondary horizontal axis to have a Max of 1. This will make the bar fill the plot area.
    Format the series to have a gap width = 0. Making the bar wider.
    Format the fill to use a picture.

    Thanks works perfect

    I only had to tweak chart dimension ratio to makes grid in perfect squares.
