Exclamation Chart - gradient error handling

iv never written on a forum before but im stuck on my coursework.
    my problem is such:
    * i have a set of results for x and y with errors on each
    * i need the gradient WITH AN ERROR for my lab project
    * i can do error bars, R^2 values but not an error on the gradient

my data looks similar to below

    x..................error in x..........y...................error in y

    x1.................ex1.................y1.................ey1
    x2.................ex2.................y2.................ey2
    x3.................ex3.................y3.................ey3
    x4.................ex4.................y4.................ey4

so i need a result that says "the gradient = (aNumber) plus or minus (anError)

    please help me,
    James

    James,

Welcome to the forum, but you really should read the rules first. You are not allowed to post the same request to more than one forum at a time. - See Rule 5.

In any case, the more obvious forum to have chosen if you'd have studied this site a little more, would have been Excel Charting.

On this occasion and since you are new here I won't give you an infraction this time, but please PM me to acknowledge you have understood the rules. They are there for a reason.

In the meantime I will move this thread for you and cancel the other one.

    Rgds

    Hi,

If I've understood your requirement, you need to plot the x,y values with errors on an xy scattergraph, select one of the points and click the 'Add Trendline' option.

Now select the Trendline and choose the Format Trendline option, click the Options tab

Then choose the 'Display equation on Chart' box to see the gradient (the second term) or the 'Display R^2 value to see the error.
