Multiple Bar Chart With Different X Axis Values

    Dear All,

Thanks for taking the time to read my posting.

I have created a rather complicated chart. The chart runs the bars horizontally from left to right. There are 2 sets of bar charts illustrated.
The first bar chart has an X axis range from zero to 35,000, incrementing by 5,000.
The second bar chart is placed at 35,000 on the X axis by use of a dummy data series. The actual data has a range from zero to 5,000.

The problem is that the X axis label for the second bar chart starts at 35,000 and finishes 40,000. I would like the 40,000 to be 5,000.

I thought of putting a label of 5,000 and pasting it over the 40,000.

Can any one give me some insight please?

Second question is how to make the grid lines solid instead of dashed?

I have attached the file for simplification.

    many thanks in advance JV

The gridlines are being obscured by the series you are using to pad the 2 sets of data. Rather than colour it the same as the plot area simply set the fill to none.

To get the required axis labeling create a dummy series and use it's data labels to build you own axis labels.

A follow Up Question On X,Y Coordinate Series

    Dear Andy,

Wow very kool and many many thanks.

just 1 more question if you dont mind?

I noticed your dummy series has the capacity for X,Y coordinates.

However, my series only allow for 1 coordinate.

How did you get your X,Y ability?

    Thanks and regards JV

I added a series via the Add button on the Source Data dialog.
Then I selected this series and change the chart type to XY-scatter.

Now when you go back to the Source Data dialog and select the series it will have range selectors for both x and y values.
